Born in the coastal town of North Berwick in Scotland, Madelaine grew up
listening to and singing Celtic music and songs. Her repertoire includes many
traditional Scottish and Irish ballads, and folk songs by modern day composers
such as The Corries, Dougie MacLean and Karine Polwart. She also enjoys
singing bluegrass/country/gospel and a wee bit of jazz.
Prior to leaving her beloved Scotland in 1991, when she married an American,
Madelaine was the Development Officer for Scottish Visitor Attractions.
Although she had to give up her career Madelaine continued to sing as she
moved from one continent to another, eventually settling in the Rocky Mountain
State of Colorado in 1999. At the end of 2010 Madelaine's "Away To The
Westward" was released in the USA and is available online. It is a collection of
songs from her homeland. Her friend, Mark Geisler, plays most of the musical
instruments which include harps, violin, viola, hammer dulcimer, 6 string and 12
string guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, whistles and bodhran.
In 2011 Madelaine and her family moved back to East Lothian, Scotland, where
she is a presenter with Radio Saltire (link below). She also organises and
promotes live folk concerts and events locally.
